Due to the recent tornado disaster in Lake Township, and the terrible devastation that has taken place, we would like to spread the word to increase our efforts to help those in need.
If you want to volunteer, there are certainly a number of ways to get involved. I would suggest starting with the Red Cross at 888.590.0098 and going from there.
We are very excited to be partnering with Main Street Church and the Lake Township Firebelles to get help where it is needed!
If you want to help us with food issues, here is the current plan:
10 A.M. TOMORROW-MONDAY, JUNE 7, 2010
Meet at Main Street Church (“old campus”) at 705 N. Main Street in Walbridge. We will be packing up some of our famous PB&J brown bag lunches to share with the emergency workers, and also for Red Cross mobile food units to deliver to devastated neighborhoods. Please come prepared to work! We can also direct you to places where they need help clearing debris.
We have some supplies already but are in need of: jelly, sandwich baggies, bottled water. There will be more lunch packing going on throughout the week and the needs will change. Stay tuned for updates.
***If you are unable to attend the volunteer session, please drop off helpful items at Main Street Church. You can also drop off additional donations of our normal needs – PB&J, chips, cookies, bread, brown paper bags, sandwich baggies, apples, bottled water – at our pantry, located at New Harvest Christian Church, 3540 Seaman Road in Oregon.
NOTE: Keeping the traffic in Lake Township at a minimum will probably be helpful to emergency personnel and clean up crews. Please don’t head down there “just to check it out”. If you do, plan on stopping and helping those that need it!
5 P.M.-7 P.M. TOMORROW-MONDAY, JUNE 7, 2010
A Community-wide Grill Out!
We need the following:
Grills and people willing to grill stuff on them
YOUR LAWN – if you live in or near a neighborhood that has had some of the house wreckage
Stuff to grill, plus condiments if applicable
Bottled water
Volunteers willing to either deliver food to neighbors or “canvas” to inform people of the
availability of food.
The concept is simply this – we’ll have lots of lawns where some grillin’ will be goin’ on. We will have fresh, hot food ready for relief workers and devastated homeowners, available right there where they live.
If you can attend the lunch making session, please just show up!
If you can participate in the grill out – please call Tana at 419.346.4231 to volunteer. She will assign you to a spot where you can be most effective.
Was your home part of the devastation or do you know someone else that was effected? Would you like help with your cleanup efforts? Email Tana (or Amanda) with your location and time, and we’ll post it on our Facebook page so volunteers can come help.
Finally, if you would like to make a donation, please do so by visiting our homepage and clicking on the Google Checkout button in the upper right-hand corner.
THANK YOU!
